DARO: Repair and reinstallation of existing pumps at the Daro Water Treatment Plant are being intensified as part of immediate efforts to address ongoing water supply disruptions affecting the district.

Daro assemblyman Dr Safiee Ahmad said the disruption was caused by pump damage and low river levels due to a prolonged drought, with several areas beyond Daro also impacted.

“Among the main actions that have been and are currently being implemented are the repair and reinstallation of existing pumps at the Daro Water Treatment Plant.

“Raw water pump No.1 is expected to arrive and be installed on April 10 while pump No.2 is scheduled for April 17 to gradually restore plant operations,” he said after chairing a special meeting on the water disruption issue at the Daro District Office on Thursday (April 9).

He added that a temporary bypass system would also be introduced through the installation of special pipes to ensure the continued flow of raw water and reduce the impact on residents.

“At the same time, a new ‘surface pump’ (negative suction type) will be added as a support unit, expected to arrive on April 13, followed by modification and installation works within approximately one week.

“This step is important to ensure the water treatment plant continues to operate stably even when river water levels are low.”

Safiee said close monitoring would continue to ensure all measures are implemented smoothly and effectively.

“All these efforts are expected to gradually restore water supply and return it to stability by the end of April 2026, subject to the smooth progress of on-site works.”
