KUCHING: The Sarawak Government has approved RM600 million in funding for the construction of a new embankment in the Satok State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituency.

Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications (Sarawak Energy Bhd and PETROS), Datuk Ibrahim Baki, announced that the first phase of the project is set to commence this year, with an estimated expenditure of RM160 million.

“RM160 million will be allocated solely for the first phase, which involves the construction of the embankment stretching from Brooke Dockyard to Bintangor,” he said.

Ibrahim made the remarks during his address at the DUN Satok Aidilfitri Gathering on Friday night (April 10).

He further elaborated that the remaining funds would be channelled into the second and third phases of the project, which will extend from Kampung Bintangor to Kampung Kudei Lama.

According to the Deputy Minister, the project is expected to transform the landscape of the Satok DUN constituency and Kuching as a whole, whilst significantly bolstering the socioeconomic wellbeing of local residents.
