LIMBANG: Development efforts across Sarawak are not mere pipe dreams or political rhetoric, but are implemented based on clear planning and backed by allocated funding.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the political culture in Sarawak under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is different, as the state government delivers on what it promises to the people.

“What is being carried out does not only involve macro-level development policies, but also includes social policies and direct assistance to the rakyat.

“This is not rhetoric. Politicians sometimes speak rhetorically, but Sarawak leaders under GPS do not rely on rhetoric—we implement what we promise,” he said when officiating the Sarawakku Sayang 2026 programme at the Limbang Sports Complex on Saturday.

Elaborating, he pointed to the construction of dual carriageways and elevated highways in northern Sarawak as a clear example of this approach.

“From a road infrastructure perspective, the northern development agenda will elevate our road network to world-class standards, comparable to developed nations.

“This is not wishful thinking or rhetoric, as billions in funding have already been allocated for these projects. God willing, as long as the billions continue to come, we will continue to develop Sarawak with billions as well,” he stressed.

He added that other initiatives include assisting with the repayment of Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) loans, making Sarawak the first state to introduce such assistance as part of its commitment to the future of education for its people.

At the same time, he said the Sarawakku Sayang programme is continued as a reflection of the state government’s deep appreciation for its people and the strength of Sarawak’s economy.

“Why do we have this programme? Because we love Sarawak. We care for the people of Sarawak. We value the strength of our economy.

“And we will continue to introduce new approaches in developing the state,” he said.

He added that beyond food aid, financial assistance and various other forms of support, the state government is also implementing new economic strategies in response to the evolving global economic landscape.

According to him, these changes require Sarawak to adapt both its macro and micro development policies to ensure the state remains resilient in facing current and future challenges.
