KOTA SAMARAHAN: Kampung Asajaya Laut has been crowned the champion of the Pertandingan Bertuntong Asajaya (traditional oil lamp competition), taking home the RM750 grand prize.

The results of the four-day competition, which kicked off on March 16, were announced during the Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri Asajaya Division held at the Asajaya Sports Complex on Saturday (Apr 11).

Under the theme ‘Raya Menseya’, Kampung Tanjung Apong secured second place (RM500), while Kampung Sebandi Ulu finished third (RM300).

The celebration took on a ceremonial highlight when Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister and Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, accompanied by Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Minister and Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang, officiated the event with the carving of kambing golek (roasted lamb).

The dish, rich in aroma and flavour, became the centrepiece of the morning’s feast, symbolising the warmth and generosity of the festive season.

A wide array of festive dishes was uniquely prepared by seven different booths representing various villages across Asajaya, all competing for the ‘Best Decorated Booth’ title.

Adding to the vibrancy, top honours for the best decorated booth went to Booth No. 7, which represented several areas including Kampung Sebantu Ulu, Kampung Sebandi Matang, Kampung Sebandi Lot, Kampung Moyan Laut Hilir, and Kampung Moyan Laut Hulu.

The winning booth captivated the crowd with its traditional spread of nasi minyak and acar, alongside two whole roasted goats.

All booths were meticulously decorated with vintage elements in keeping with the ‘Raya Menseya’ theme, reflecting the Hari Raya of yesteryear and evoking a sense of nostalgia among visitors.

Meanwhile, families dressed in vibrant, classic Malay attire mingled and exchanged festive greetings, as children weaved through the displays, further heightening the evening’s lively atmosphere.

The event also featured a ‘Raya Menseya’ Glamorous Costume Competition, lucky draw and duit raya contributions to children from Asajaya area, further enlivening the celebration while reinforcing a strong sense of community spirit and goodwill.

Also in attendance were Abdul Karim’s wife, Datin Seri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar, Asajaya District Officer Jerry Zannuddin Bidin, and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Abang Ismawi Abang Ali.
