LUNDU: The construction of a new Rumah Wanita in Kampung Skambal has been approved with an allocation of RM300,000 to support women’s empowerment at the grassroots level.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the project, funded under the Projek Mesra Rakyat (PMR) for the Santubong parliamentary constituency in 2025, reflects the government’s continued commitment to the community.
“The Rumah Wanita is being rebuilt after the previous structure had to be demolished, and we are maintaining its legacy as part of the community’s history,” she said when officiating the ‘Anjung Komuniti Nadi Sejiwa’ @ Kampung Skambal, here today (Apr 12).
Nancy said the new facility will provide a safe and conducive space for women to carry out activities, develop skills and participate in community programmes.
“This initiative ensures women have a dedicated platform for self-development while also supporting efforts to nurture younger generations through skills such as handicrafts and food preparation,” she added.
Nancy also noted that RM250,000 has been allocated for the upgrading of the Kampung Skambal community hall.
She said RM100,000 was spent in 2024 for initial upgrading works, which have been completed, while an additional RM150,000 has been approved for the next phase in 2025.
“These allocations demonstrate the government’s ongoing commitment to improving rural infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for the community,” she said.
