KUCHING: Sarawak’s futsal squad have set their sights on a silver medal at the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor in August, as preparations continue to gather pace.
Head coach Mohamad Faizal Zamri said the team has been showing steady progress in training ahead of upcoming competitions.
“Our target is a silver medal, as the strongest competition will come from Selangor and Johor”, he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted.
As part of their build-up, the team will compete in the Johor Futsal Invitation Cup from Apr 17 to 21, with places in the final 20-man squad up for grabs.
“It is very important for them, as many are playing in such a tournament for the first time, but I am confident they can give a good fight”, he added.
The Johor outing is expected to provide valuable exposure, particularly for newer players adjusting to the team’s chemistry.
“We hope they gain new experience and better understand the demands of competition,” he added.
The Malaysia Premier Futsal League (MPFL) will serve as the final phase of preparation before the Games.
