BETONG: The Betong League 2026 (Closed Betong Division) has been postponed, with the competition now set to kick off on June 6 instead of its original, April 25 start date.
Betong Division Football Association (BDFA) honorary secretary Saiful Hanizam Suhaini said the decision was made due to unavoidable circumstances.
“We have had to postpone the start of the competition to June 6 due to unavoidable issues.
“The change has been communicated to all participating team managers”, he said when contacted recently.
The decision was made following a meeting held last weekend, where several adjustments to the competition were also discussed.
“Among the changes, teams will now be allowed to field up to three import players.
“The registration fee has also been reduced to RM500 from RM1,000 previously,” he added.
Saiful said three teams namely, Hermanos FC, Spaoh FC and Makaron FC are among the earliest to register for the league.
“It is a positive development, and we believe more teams will sign up in the coming weeks”, he said.
The league will be limited to eight teams, with the champion set to receive RM5,000 along with a trophy and medals, while the runners-up will take home RM3,000.
The competition also serves as a platform to identify and develop young football talents in the division.
“We hope this league will help uncover promising young players who can be developed further to a higher level,” he added.
