KUCHING: Sarawak is set to convene global experts to address growing cyber threats and the urgent need for stronger digital trust frameworks at the PROTECT Sarawak 2026 conference from April 28 to 30.
Organised by Purple Door (M) Sdn Bhd (Purple Door), the inaugural event will be held at The Waterfront Hotel here, focusing on data privacy and digital trust as key pillars of economic resilience, national security and public confidence.

Purple Door’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Marsy Sebban, said cyber risks have become a persistent global challenge, with threats ranging from data breaches and ransomware attacks to AI-driven scams and identity theft.
“Every breach, every scam, every misuse of data erodes trust. And without trust, the digital economy cannot function,” she said in a statement today (April 14).
She added that the conference aims to reposition data privacy as a shared responsibility rather than just a regulatory requirement, while reinforcing digital trust as a critical expectation in today’s interconnected world.
The three-day programme will bring together international and regional experts to discuss data governance, cybersecurity frameworks and strategies to strengthen trust in digital systems.
It also aligns with Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and reflects Sarawak’s growing role in the digital economy, while contributing to broader regional and global discussions on digital governance.
Held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, the conference is expected to attract policymakers, industry leaders and experts to Kuching, supporting knowledge-driven tourism.
The programme will feature keynote sessions, panel discussions and masterclasses, and is HRD Corp claimable with 12 MBOT Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours awarded.
The event is expected to conclude with a closing keynote by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
