BAU: A house in Taman Riverdale along Jalan Bau-Kuching was broken into in broad daylight on Tuesday (Apr 14), with valuables estimated at about RM300,000 reported stolen.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the complainant was alerted by a neighbour who noticed a suspicious vehicle entering the victim’s residential compound at around 9.47am.

“The complainant, who was in Kuching at the time, immediately rushed to the house and arrived at about 10.03am.

“Upon arrival, he discovered that the automatic gate had been left open and the main door had been forcibly broken into,” Mohd Haide said in a statement.

He added that a preliminary inspection of the house revealed that several high-value items were missing, including a 75-inch Panasonic television, a Rolex wristwatch, a Cartier wristwatch, a Panerai wristwatch, and a gold chain of unknown weight.

“There were no eyewitnesses who clearly saw the suspects, with neighbours only noticing a suspicious vehicle in the area.

“The house was also not equipped with CCTV surveillance.

“Investigations further revealed that the residence is only occupied during weekends, while the surrounding area is often quiet and sparsely populated during working hours, potentially making it an easy target for criminals,” he added.

Mohd Haide said some items believed to have been taken by the suspects were also found at the scene, suggesting they were not fully removed.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft.

Members of the public with any information regarding the incident are urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Inspector Mohammad Faris Abdul Ghani, at 011-19972933.
