KUCHING: A man was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here today (April 16) for possession of methamphetamine weighing 0.34 gramme.
Nazri Jalil, 34, pleaded guilty to a charge read before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.
He was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years upon conviction.
According to the charge, he was found in possession of the drug at a house in Kampung Haji Baki at about 3:00 pm on November 18, 2025.
Based on the facts of the case, police conducted a raid on the premises after receiving information regarding suspected drug-related activities.
During the inspection, a transparent straw containing crystalline substances believed to be syabu was discovered and handed over by the accused.
The seized item was subsequently sent to the Chemistry Department of Malaysia for analysis, which confirmed it to be methamphetamine weighing 0.34 gramme.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Ahmad Fauzulufti Suriani, while the accused was not represented by counsel.
