KUCHING: Sarawak is set to make gymnastics history this weekend as Dewan Sa’ati at SUPP HQ transforms into the national stage for Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG).
The Sarawak AGG Carnival 2026 — sanctioned as MAGGA National Series 1 — will draw approximately 300 gymnasts and official delegations from states across Malaysia, marking one of the most significant gatherings of AGG talent the country has seen.
Organised by the Sarawak Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (SAGGA) and officially sanctioned by the Malaysian Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (MAGGA), the event spans two full days and encompasses three major components: the National AGG Development (NAD) Programme Competition, the International Competition Rules (IFAGG) Programme Competition, and a special AGG training workshop led by members of Malaysia’s Junior Mixed Team.
Saturday (Apr 25) sees the NAD Programme Competition take centre stage, commencing at noon and building towards a prize-giving ceremony at 4.30pm.
The NAD program is designed as a structured entry point for developing gymnasts, enabling participation at a competitive national level while providing the scaffolding needed to progress through the sport’s technical demands.
Sunday (Apr 26) opens at 10am with the IFAGG Programme Competition — the international rules format that aligns gymnasts with global competition standards.
The day then transitions into the AGG training workshop, a rare opportunity for participants to train side-by-side with Malaysia’s Junior Mixed Team gymnasts.
That workshop also serves as the official debut of the Mixed Team Programme, a new initiative within Malaysian AGG that introduces a mixed-gender group format to the sport’s competitive roster.
SAGGA officials have described the launch as an important developmental milestone, one that expands athlete participation avenues and deepens the technical breadth of local gymnastics culture.
The carnival carries national significance as the first instalment of the MAGGA National Series, a structured competition calendar that forms the backbone of Malaysia’s AGG development pathway.
