KUCHING: The Kampung Sebangan Veterans Football Championship 2026, the Dato Sri Haji Julaihi Narawi Cup, is set to return in mid-May, with organisers targeting 32 teams for the latest edition.
Tournament chairman, Osman Jamel, said the official start date has yet to be finalised but is expected to fall in mid-May.
“We will continue organising another prestigious tournament, the Kampung Sebangan Veterans Football Championship 2026, the Dato Sri Haji Julaihi Narawi Cup,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
He added that a meeting involving the organising committee will be held soon to finalise details of the event.
Participation will be capped at 32 teams, with organisers planning to introduce a fresh element by inviting sides from neighbouring constituencies such as Lingga and Beting Maro.
Osman said the move aligns with the upcoming opening of the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge, which is expected to improve accessibility next month.
He stressed that beyond competition, the tournament serves as a platform for veteran players to reconnect with former teammates while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
“In other words, this tournament helps strengthen friendship and camaraderie among the players involved.
“At the same time, it promotes a healthy lifestyle among veteran players,” he said.
