KUCHING: The race for four coveted spots at the world stage begins as 16 nations compete in the ITF World Junior Tennis Competition Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying for Under-14 Girls at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) Centre.
The week-long tournament, from April 20 to 26, features 48 players from across Asia and Oceania, with teams drawn into four round-robin groups.
Top seeds India headline Group 1 alongside Vietnam, hosts Malaysia and fifth seeds Australia in a competitive opening stage.
In Group 2, fourth seeds Kazakhstan face Chinese Taipei, Sri Lanka and eighth seeds Thailand, while third seeds Japan lead Group 3 with Uzbekistan, Hong Kong China and sixth seeds South Korea.
Second seeds China top Group 4 and will meet Indonesia, Singapore and seventh seeds New Zealand as teams battle for knockout berths.
Matches begin after the opening ceremony at 8.30am on Tuesday (Apr 21).
At stake are four qualification spots for the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals in Prostějov, Czech Republic, from Aug 3 to 8.
Also present at the team captains’ meeting were ITF referee , organising chairman , tournament director and tournament secretary .
