SARIKEI: Basic infrastructure development in longhouses will continue to be prioritised to improve the living standards of rural communities.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said such efforts would be carried out continuously through government allocations and the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
“Rural areas, including longhouses in Sarikei, would continue to receive attention, particularly in upgrading roads and drainage systems to ensure communities can benefit from better living conditions,” he said.
Huang, who is Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman, said this during his visit to several longhouses in the district to assess the needs of residents recently.
Among the longhouses visited were Rh Jabu Ak Selan and Rh Allin Ak Ujang in Sungai Seleku; Rh Siti Ak Nyadau and Rh Jawi Ak Singki in Sungai Bulat; as well as Rh Patrick Ak Jingan along Jalan Kim San.
The visit covered a total of 208 doors.
“Visits like this are important for me to see the situation on the ground and better understand the actual needs of longhouse residents, so that the assistance provided will truly benefit them,” he added.
He also expressed appreciation to the people for their continued support in past general and state elections, describing it as a motivation to serve more effectively.
Huang also conveyed his appreciation to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for his continued commitment to rural development.
He added that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), as a local-based coalition, remained focused on safeguarding the interests of Sarawak and ensuring development efforts reached the people.
