KUCHING: Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd has dismissed a false viral claim alleging that water levels at Sungai Liku in Miri are depleting due to hot weather and that consumers should store water in anticipation of rationing.
In a statement, the utility company stressed that the information circulating on social media and WhatsApp is untrue and misleading.
“We wish to emphasise that the information is false. Based on our latest technical monitoring, water levels at Sungai Liku remain normal and sufficient for treatment and supply to the whole of Miri.”
Sarawak Water assured that there are currently no plans to implement water rationing or any scheduled supply disruptions due to raw water shortages.
“Water treatment plants are operating at full capacity to ensure continuous supply of clean water to all consumers without interruption.”
The company said it views the spread of false information seriously as it could cause unnecessary concern and panic among the public.
It advised the public to verify information through official channels before sharing it further.
Sarawak Water also urged the public to stop circulating the false message.
It noted that any official notice regarding water supply disruptions will only be issued through its official website, Facebook page or recognised media outlets in Sarawak.
For enquiries or to report water supply issues, the public can download the “Sarawak Water” mobile app via the PlayStore or Apple Store, or visit its official website.
