KUCHING: Sarawak is no longer merely a participant in the national robotics arena but has emerged as a leader shaping success, driven by strong student performance and a robust STEM ecosystem.

The Sarawak Education Department (JPNS) Director, Omar Mahli, said the state’s consistent achievements reflect the strength of its education system, quality of teaching and the vast potential of its students.

“However, success is not the end point, but the starting point for us to go further.

“Sarawak will continue to shape the future of robotics and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM),” he said at the Presentation of Robotic Kits Ceremony in conjunction with the National Robotics Competition (NRC) Development Programme 2026 at the Sarawak State Library here today.

To support this direction, the state has allocated RM300,000 to expand the NRC Development Programme statewide, involving 60 schools under 30 District Education Offices.

A total of 60 robotic kits were distributed to participating schools as part of the initiative.

Omar said the expansion reflects a clear commitment to ensure equal access to technology and innovation across Sarawak.

“This is not just about expanding a programme, but a commitment to ensure no Sarawak child is left behind in the wave of technology and innovation. It is also a strategic investment in developing future talent,” he said.

At the same event, JPNS presented the ‘Anugerah Kecemerlangan Pengurusan Sektor Pembangunan Murid 2025’ award, recognising behind-the-scenes efforts in programme delivery.

Omar said strong management remains a critical foundation in ensuring the success and impact of education initiatives.

“We often see success in outcomes, but rarely recognise the strength in the process.

“Without excellent management, no programme can achieve true success,” he said.

He added that excellence is built through discipline, integrity and sustained commitment, stressing that both innovation and management must move in tandem.

“If robotics represents the future we aim to build, then excellent management is the foundation that ensures that future becomes a reality. Both must move together in the spirit of Segulai Sejalai,” he said.
