KUCHING: Sarawak’s badminton ecosystem continues to strengthen with 51 participants completing the BAM Coaching Course Level 1, part of ongoing efforts to build a more structured and competitive development pathway.

The course, organised in collaboration with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), was held in two phases, beginning with online theory sessions on April 18 and 19, 2026, followed by practical, face-to-face sessions from April 21 to 24 at the Sarawak Badminton Association Hall here.

The programme attracted strong participation from a diverse group comprising aspiring coaches, former players, teachers, and badminton enthusiasts, all seeking to enhance their coaching knowledge and obtain recognised certification.

Participants were exposed to a comprehensive coaching syllabus covering sports science, biomechanics, coaching methodology, physical conditioning, skill development, feeding drills, and player assessment.

The course also included both written and practical evaluations to ensure competency before certification.

The participants were guided by an experienced team of instructors led by Dr Tengku Fadilah Tengku Kamalden, Chairperson of the BAM Coach Education Panel (CEP), with assistance from Mohamed Zambri, Siow Wei Kong, Daniel Krishna, and coach Razlan Shah.

SBA Honorary Secretary, Datuk Dr Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad, said the successful organisation of the course reflects Sarawak’s long-term commitment to strengthening its badminton development structure through education and coach certification.

“Sarawak is serious about badminton development, and quality coaches are the foundation of long-term success.

“We are pleased to have successfully hosted this BAM Level 1 course and provided an opportunity for participants to gain recognised certification here in Sarawak,” he told Sarawak Tribune.

He added that SBA will continue to work closely with BAM to bring more coaching, officiating, and development programmes to the state, ensuring continuous capacity building for local badminton personnel.

The completion of the BAM Coaching Course Level 1 aligns with SBA’s broader vision of strengthening grassroots badminton, expanding the pool of qualified technical officials, and positioning Sarawak as a growing hub for badminton development in Malaysia.
