KUCHING: Sarawak’s role in Malaysian women’s cricket is growing, with three young players selected for the national senior squad for the Hong Kong T20I Tri-Series.

The tournament will be held from May 5 to 11, 2026.

The trio – Nur Dania Syuhada, Nur Qaireen Syakira and Aina Umira – have been included in the Malaysian lineup as the country prepares for the international assignment in Hong Kong, marking another encouraging sign for Sarawak’s cricket development pathway.

Sarawak Cricket Association (SCA) Vice-President, Victor Graman, described the call-up as exceptional for the development of cricket in Sarawak.

“Our girls being selected to represent the country’s senior women’s team are signs of growth in our development programme.

“We are cheering the girls on, and we believe this will create a bigger player pool for others to follow,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted today (April 24).

At just 20 years old, Nur Dania Syuhada leads the Sarawak representation, while her younger sister, 16-year-old Nur Qaireen Syakira, joins her in the senior national setup – a rare sibling presence at international level.

Completing the Sarawak trio is 15-year-old Aina Umira, who has been named among the reserve players, underlining her rapid rise despite her age.

The Malaysian squad will be led by captain, Winifred Anne Duraisingam, with Mas Elysa Yasmin Zulkifli serving as vice-captain.

The team features a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talents as Malaysia continues to strengthen its women’s cricket programme on the international stage.

For Sarawak, the inclusion of three of its players in the national setup highlights the state’s growing contribution to the sport, particularly in producing young talent capable of stepping into senior international competition.

The Hong Kong T20I Tri-Series will serve as an important exposure platform for Malaysia as they continue to build depth and competitiveness in women’s cricket.
