BAU: Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg is set to officially launch the newly completed Bidayuh Cultural Centre here on June 23.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Henry Harry Jinep said the upcoming launch highlights the importance of the centre as a new landmark representing the identity of the Bidayuh community.
“When visitors come to Bau, we want people to know that Bau has a unique landmark that represents the Bidayuh community here.
“That’s why we build the cultural centre for the people and can hold various events. So in June, the Premier will officiate the building,” he said during the BiSingai Townhall session at REDEEMS, here today (Apr 25).
The RM9 million facility is designed as both a cultural symbol and a functional venue, featuring a grand hall that can accommodate over 1,000 people or about 100 tables.
It also includes a canteen, meeting room, exhibition and gallery spaces, as well as a Baruk, serving as its iconic architectural feature.
The centre will be managed by the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA), and is expected to host a wide range of cultural, social and community events.
