HORSENS: Malaysia are back where they belong and they barely broke a sweat getting there.

A commanding 5-0 sweep of South Africa sealed a long-awaited return to the Uber Cup quarter-finals after 16 years, with the national women’s squad cruising through their second Group B tie at Forum Horsens today.

K. Letshanaa set the tone early, brushing aside Johanita Scholtz 21-6, 21-10 in just 22 minutes with a performance that showed complete control.

Sarawak’s badminton queen Wong Ling Ching followed with even greater ease, dismantling Chloe Lai 21-8, 21-4 in a one-sided 19-minute affair.

Siti Zulaikha Muhammad Azmi then did what was needed and more, powering past Elme De Villiers 21-11, 21-5 to seal Malaysia’s passage into the last eight.

No let-up, no mercy.

Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting, briefly tested, held their nerve to overcome Scholtz and Amy Ackerman 21-16, 21-14, before debutants Chong Jie Yu and Low Zi Yu wrapped up a near-flawless outing with a 21-12, 21-5 win over De Villiers and Anri Schoonees.

Five matches. Five wins. Statement made.

The result sees Malaysia match their best-ever Uber Cup run, last achieved in 2004, 2008 and 2010, while building momentum after edging Turkiye 3-2 in their opener.

Next up is six-time champions Japan, the looming obstacle in Malaysia’s push for a semi-finals seat in what would be their chance to rewrite Malaysian badminton history tomorrow.

The Uber Cup Finals 2026 began on April 24 and is set to conclude until May 3.
