KUCHING: The Front Row Comedy Sentral’s “Rizal van Geyzel: Unfiltered” show drew a lively crowd to Cloud9 Sky Lounge, Roxy Impiana yesterday.

With the opening act performed by Jacky Ng from Singapore, the show set the tone before Rizal van Geyzel took the stage, delivering his signature style of comedy that blends sharp wit with candid storytelling, which resonated strongly with attendees.

Mohd Afdhal Abdul Hadi, 36

Sarawak Tribune spoke to members of the audience at the event to gather their feedback on the show.

Mohd Afdhal Abdul Hadi, 36, enjoyed the setting as he found it more engaging compared to the ones he went to before.

“I really enjoyed the show today, it’s much more intimate and engaging,” he said.

As a regular comedy goer, he has been a big fan of Rizal given his consistent ability to engage audiences with relatable and entertaining material.

“I have been attending Rizal shows and I am also familiar with the other comedian, Jacky Ng, I find him entertaining too as I also listen to Singaporean comedy podcasts,” he added.

Mohd Afdhal’s friend Ammal Dzulfiqar Ismail, 38, had a similar experience.

“I am from Selangor and I can totally relate to Rizal’s jokes both in the peninsular and also Sarawak context,” he said.

Sahil Dev, 38

Sahil Dev, 38, also found Rizal a showstopper, stating that his jokes were spot-on throughout the show.

“I am familiar with Rizal, but this is my first time discovering Jacky, and I really enjoyed his sense of humour too,” he said.

As someone originally from India who grew up in Sarawak, he said he was able to relate closely to the jokes delivered by Rizal, particularly those that touched on everyday experiences and cultural nuances, making the performance even more enjoyable and meaningful for him.

Amalina Arip, 40, who has been a loyal Front Row Comedy Sentral follower since the start, was also among the audience.

“I have joined their shows since they started in 2020 and we are all friends supporting each other,” she said.

She also noted that many familiar faces have been following the comedy scene closely, highlighting how their continued support has played a significant role in shaping the comedians to be where they are today.

“I was laughing like a hyena throughout the whole show, and that’s what makes it fun as we are all from different backgrounds yet laughing together as one, which felt really great,” she added.
