LAWAS: The RM112.7 million road construction from Kampung Murud Suang to the Long Pos Junction is set to become a key catalyst in strengthening rural connectivity.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the federal government initiative under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, is implemented by the Sarawak Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID) to provide for more comfortable and safer road access for residents.
“The project, which has been approved with funding allocated, even if not in full, must be implemented immediately.
“If we wait until the full allocation is disbursed, we will only continue waiting without taking action,” he said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the road project on Sunday (April 26).
At the same time, he stressed that the appointed contractor must ensure the project is carried out according to the set schedule and specifications.
He also called for the cooperation of villagers to facilitate the project’s implementation, including in matters related to land acquisition.
“We will ensure that all affected land, including customary land with proof of ownership, will be compensated according to the regulations, including any crops on the land,” he explained.
Awang Tengah also said that long-term interests must be prioritised for the development of the area and the well-being of the local community.
He added that infrastructure development, such as the road project, will create more economic opportunities and improve the standard of living for the people in Lawas, in line with Sarawak’s development agenda.
