KUCHING: Sarawak’s preparations for the 2027 SEA Games are firmly on course, says Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He said the venues for 17 types of sports are progressing well through their upgrading works.

He said this when addressing reporters after the ‘Program Kembara Inspirasi Belia Akar Umbi’ (KIBAR) at Kampung Semeba, here today (April 27).

Abdul Karim acknowledged that some contractors have approached authorities requesting cost revisions mid-project but stressed that no facility would fall short of readiness.

“I believe there will be a slight cost increase, due to the Middle East conflict but all these things we will bring back to the Cabinet for approval,” he said.

While a slight upward revision in costs is anticipated, Abdul Karim indicated this was within acceptable bounds and would not trigger delays to the event timeline.

Abdul Karim is scheduled to conduct a site inspection of key Sarawak facilities the following morning, accompanying Minister of Youth and Sports Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari, to personally assess the pace of development on the ground.
