KUCHING: The Old Josephians’ Association (OJA) will host its annual Back To School Games and Activities on July 17 from 8 am to 12 pm at SMK St Joseph and St Joseph’s Private School.

The event will involve SMK St Joseph, St Joseph’s Private School, and St Joseph’s International School, bringing together students and alumni from three Josephian institutions, with organisers highlighting its role in fostering integration and interaction between alumni and current students.

OJA said the initiative aims to strengthen alumni ties while encouraging continued support for the school’s development.

In a recent effort, members of the Class of ‘77 raised RM11,000 as seed funding for future facility upgrades.

The contribution was presented by class representatives Alvin Wee and Peh Yaw Tin during the launch of the Ora et Labora Run yesterday (April 27).

At the same event, proceeds from the Ora et Labora Run 2025 were handed over to SMK St Joseph principal James Chen and St Joseph’s Private School principal Yong Ing Thung.

The Back To School Games will feature a range of sporting activities, including badminton, basketball, table tennis, futsal, squash, pickleball, and tug-of-war, all of which are open for registration.

Participants can register through the respective schools or the OJA organising committee, led by Raymond Goh.

In addition to sports, co-curricular clubs and societies from the three schools will conduct activities in classrooms, further promoting engagement among students and alumni.

Retired teachers will also be honoured and invited to attend both the Teachers’ Day celebration on May 22 and the Back To School event, providing an opportunity for reunions and appreciation of past educators.

Meanwhile, OJA has also announced the return of the annual Ora et Labora Run on October 24, featuring a 1.4km walk, a 5km fun run, and a 10km competitive run.

Looking ahead, preparations are underway for the schools’ 145th anniversary celebration in April 2027, with alumni and retired teachers to be invited to take part.

The association also noted that a master plan to upgrade facilities at SMK St Joseph will be initiated soon as part of efforts to enhance holistic learning.
