KUCHING: A proposal to develop permanent infrastructure in Mukah to support major events, including the renowned Kaul Festival, has been submitted to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said the area requires fixed facilities to reduce recurring organisational costs, particularly for large-scale events.

“Facilities such as permanent tents and stages would be more cost-effective compared to setting them up temporarily each time,” he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on the Premier at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today (Apr 29) as reported by TVS.

He said improvements are also needed for parking facilities, noting that traffic congestion has become a recurring issue during major events.

“However, the high turnout and resulting congestion also reflect the strong response from visitors,” he added.

He pointed out that better and more comprehensive infrastructure would not only streamline the organisation of the Mukah Kaul Festival but also enhance comfort for visitors.

On the Mukah Kaul Festival 2026, Abdul Yakub who chairs the organising committee said the closing ceremony will be officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, representing the Premier.

“The Premier will be unable to attend as he will be in the United Kingdom for the Lan Berambeh programme in Manchester,” he said.

Meanwhile, the organisers are targeting 30,000 visitors for this year’s festival, a significant increase from the 15,000 recorded in 2025.
