SIBU: A local man was fined RM100,000 by the Sessions Court here for trading controlled diesel without a licence.
Judge Musyiri Peet imposed the fine to the accused under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961, with a default sentence of 10 months’ imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
The accused, however, paid the fine and was released.
The offence involved 38,000 litres of diesel, uncovered during enforcement operations carried out by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak.
In addition to the penalty, the court ordered the forfeiture of seized items valued at RM103,200 to the government.
In a statement, KPDN Sarawak Director, Matthew Dominic Barin, said the ministry will continue to take firm action against those found abusing controlled and subsidised goods.
He also urged members of the public to act as the “eyes and ears” of the authorities by channelling information on any misappropriation activities through official complaint platforms, including WhatsApp, email, the call centre, and the Ez ADU KPDN mobile application.
