KANOWIT: A RM123 million road project linking the Ngungun Resettlement Scheme (SPS) to the Jagau Resettlement Scheme is being implemented in phases involving multiple government agencies to ensure comprehensive and effective execution.

Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana said the phased approach allows better coordination among agencies while addressing technical and logistical challenges along the route.

He added that the road is expected to be a major catalyst in strengthening communication networks and increasing accessibility for residents in the interior.

He said this during the Family Day programme for Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) of Ngemah Tengah and Ngemah Hilir at Karangan Nanga Bat on Friday.

He explained the first phase of the project — a 4.3-kilometre stretch from SPS Ngungun to Nanga Bat under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) — valued at over RM37.79 million, was tendered on Feb 25, 2026.

He noted that the project is currently undergoing resolution of several technical matters, including land compensation issues handled by the Land and Survey Department.

Meanwhile, the 8-kilometre stretch from Nanga Bat to Nanga Pra under the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA), valued at RM86 million, has reached 86 per cent completion.

Anyi added that the next phase, covering the route from Nanga Pra to Nanga Jagau, is expected to be tendered in the third quarter of 2026, subject to the schedule set by the Public Works Department (PWD).

In addition, a separate 7-kilometre access road project to Jagau Junction will be tendered soon to complete the overall road network in the area.

As an interim measure, he said the state government will take over existing logging roads and upgrade them for public use while awaiting the completion of the main project.

The project is expected to boost socio-economic development by improving mobility, enhancing access to essential services, and stimulating economic activities in the interior regions.
