KUCHING: Senaman Cergas 1Kenyalang is set to create its own milestone as Sarawak’s first community fitness event to combine aerobics, aerodance and Zumba under one platform.

Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) deputy director Ramzi Abdillah said the programme goes beyond being just another fitness event.

He described it as a meaningful community initiative that brings people together in a healthy, cheerful and harmonious environment.

“The integration of aerobics, aerodance and Zumba into a single event makes the programme more energetic, interactive and suitable for participants of all ages.

“When the community is healthy, the community becomes stronger. When the community is strong, our city will also become more prosperous, harmonious and resilient,” he said during a press conference on Wednesday (May 6).

Ramzi said organising the programme alongside DBKU Car Free Morning Petra Jaya Edition and the WAK Kuching Festival further enhances its significance as it not only promotes a healthy lifestyle, but also supports efforts to transform urban spaces into active, family-friendly and environmentally friendly community areas.

He also said DBKU remains committed to supporting programmes that strengthen community wellbeing, improve quality of life and position Kuching North as a smart, green and inclusive city.

“The programme aims to promote healthy living while encouraging stronger community engagement and the active use of public urban spaces,” he added.

Meanwhile, organising chairperson Dr Dayang Elena Maria said Senaman Cergas 1Kenyalang was designed not merely as a fitness programme, but also as a platform to celebrate movement, unity, healthy living and community spirit.

She said the event is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants comprising families, youths, working adults, local communities and fitness enthusiasts around Kuching.

“The programme will be led by experienced Zumba, aerobics and aerodance instructors to ensure participants enjoy a fun, energetic and safe exercise experience suitable for all age groups,” she said.

Dayang Elena also expressed hope that Senaman Cergas 1Kenyalang would eventually grow into an iconic community fitness event reflecting the spirit of Sarawak as active, united, inclusive and full of energy.

“We are also looking into the possibility of expanding the programme to other major towns in Sarawak, including Sibu and Miri, in the future,” she said.

Registration is open under two categories, namely RM25 with a T-shirt and RM12 without a T-shirt, with registration closing on Aug 10.

Apart from the fitness activities, participants will also stand a chance to win attractive lucky draw prizes.
