KUCHING: Sarawak has introduced a new digital employment platform, JobSarawak, aimed at providing real-time labour market data and improving job matching between employers and job seekers statewide.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the platform was developed to address weaknesses in the previous e-recruitment system, particularly in terms of employment data and labour market tracking.

He said the new platform would support Sarawak’s economic transition agenda by providing more comprehensive workforce information across various sectors.

“Previously, we collaborated with the Labour Department, but it was not very strong in terms of figures and data. So, we introduced a new digital platform that provides the data needed to create jobs that are aligned with our economic transition mission,” he told reporters after the state-level Labour Day celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching today.

Abang Johari said the dashboard platform developed by the Sarawak Labour Institute (ILMU) under Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, was capable of displaying employment opportunities in real time.

According to him, the data can also be broken down into different sectors and industries, allowing the government to better understand labour demands and economic trends.

“This platform is more comprehensive and strengthens the relationship between employers and the government. Workers can also access the platform to find out where vacancies are available and apply directly according to the positions offered by companies,” he said.

He added that the platform would also help identify workforce gaps and the types of expertise needed as Sarawak moves towards high-technology and knowledge-based industries.
