AirBorneo is expected to improve flight accessibility to Sarawak, including its rural and interior areas.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the initiative could help stimulate the tourism sector, both from outside the state and within Sarawak’s interior regions.
“The establishment of Sarawak-owned airline, AirBorneo, is also a significant step towards strengthening domestic and regional air connectivity.
“At the same time, it will help stabilise airfares to Sarawak so that they are not entirely subject to the timing and interests of existing airlines,” he said in his opening address at the first meeting of the fifth term of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN).
He said a modern and efficient land and air transport ecosystem is crucial in strengthening Sarawak’s development.
On the implementation of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system, Wan Junaidi said it is a strategic move towards transforming the urban transportation system into one that is more modern, efficient and sustainable.
“This is achieved through the use of hydrogen technology, which reflects Sarawak’s commitment to the clean energy and green transportation agenda,” he said.
