THE First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) commenced on Monday with the opening ceremony officiated by Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
The opening was conducted in full ceremonial tradition steeped in protocol at the DUN Complex grounds here.
Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi arrived at about 9am to attend the ceremony held at the parade grounds of the complex.
He then inspected a guard of honour mounted by 105 police personnel led by DSP Amirol Mahathir Mohamad Khoiri.
The ceremony also saw the recitation of prayers before Wan Junaidi entered the chambers to deliver his opening address.
Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asia Awang Nassar were among thiose present.
During the eight-day sitting, which will resume tomorrow (May 12), four Bills will be tabled including the Supplementary Supply (2025) Bill, 2026 and the Supplementary Supply (2026) Bill, 2026 by Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Deputy Premier cum Second Minister for Finance and New Economy, who also serves as Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development.
Also to be tabled will be the Sarawak Padi and Rice Board Bill, 2026 by Datuk Seri Stephen Rundi Utom, Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development.
The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 will be tabled by Uggah.
