KUALA LUMPUR: The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) does not channel direct financial allocations to Selangor as host of the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) but assists through facilities under the ministry.

Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the decision has also been agreed upon at a previous Cabinet meeting with the 22nd Sukma and 2026 Selangor Para Sukma Implementing Committee entrusted with running the events.

The approach is also in line with government efforts to implement cost savings and prudent financial management, he added.

“Actually the decision was made at the Cabinet level that the Federal (government) does not channel any aid or funds, so the costs have to be borne by the state involved and the matter was agreed upon previously.

“But we still provide assistance in other aspects, for instance, Selangor can use Federal-owned facilities and we will lighten (the burden) in terms of facility use. There are several facilities provided for free, including certain locations and amenities,” he told Bernama when met here today.

According to him, other assistance discussed at the 2026 Sukma Supreme Special Committee involved the cost of anti-doping tests set by the Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (ADAMAS).

“We may reduce to provide some savings and reduce the burden borne by the host. For me, the Federal (government) always provides contributions and assistance, only in different forms and it will help with the organising costs itself,” he added. – BERNAMA
