KUCHING: Preserving Sarawak’s historical narratives and strengthening understanding of the state’s heritage are vital to maintaining long-term unity, harmony and stability in the state.
Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar highlighted the importance of a deep appreciation of history during a meeting with academics, historians and veteran writers at Kasuma Resort here today (May 16)
Present were Datuk Dr Azimuddin Bahari and his wife Datuk Badriyah Ab Malek, prominent historian and author Dr Ranjit Singh Malhi, as well as veteran journalist and local writer M Rajah.
Also accompanying Wan Junaidi was his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi and his daughter, Sharifah Fariah.
The discussion touched on current issues involving the history of Sarawak and Malaysia, including the importance of factual historical records in shaping identity within Sarawak’s multicultural society.
They also exchanged views on book writing and efforts to document local historical narratives to ensure they are preserved and remain valuable references for future generations.
Wan Junaidi and Fauziah also conveyed their appreciation for the guests’ contributions in academia, education and historical writing.
