KUCHING: Kuching City FC’s rise this season has been built on discipline, structure and the Sarawak fighting spirit of “Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban”, according to sports analyst, Datuk Dr Pekan Ramli.

He credited head coach, Aidil Sharin Sahak, for transforming the club’s mentality, identity and tactical organisation throughout the campaign.

Pekan described the Singaporean tactician as the key figure behind Kuching City’s remarkable emergence from what many once regarded as a “small club” into genuine title challengers and Malaysia Cup finalists.

“For me, one of the most impressive aspects is Aidil Sharin Sahak’s ability to carry out a major transformation at Kuching City FC, lifting the club from being seen as a small team into one of the main challengers in the Super League,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted recently.

He said Aidil has successfully built a team that is disciplined, difficult to beat, and capable of competing consistently against the country’s top clubs.

Pekan also praised Aidil’s tactical courage and his ability to instil strong fighting spirit within the squad, saying the coach has successfully infused the Sarawak spirit of ‘Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban’ into his players.

Under Aidil, Kuching City have developed one of the strongest defensive records in the league this season while also showing resilience in high-pressure matches.

Their impressive campaign has placed them on the verge of qualifying for the Asian Champions League 2 (ACL2), with a crucial final league fixture against Kuala Lumpur City FC awaiting this Sunday (May 17).

Pekan believes the team’s mentality and organisation have become the foundation of their consistency throughout the season.

“Aidil has successfully built the character of Kuching City into a team that is difficult to defeat and possesses one of the strongest defensive units this season,” he added.
