KUCHING: Kuching City FC are aiming to end their impressive campaign on a high as head coach, Aidil Sharin Sahak, hopes his side can reward their loyal home crowd in the final league match of the season.
Speaking after the 3-1 victory over Melaka at the Hang Jebat Stadium last weekend, Aidil said the team’s progress had been built on hard work, unity and belief, even as they continue to compete against more established sides in the Malaysia Super League.
“Insya-Allah, the result is something we cannot control. Definitely, we have to work hard for it. We have to pray, and we have to train well to get the result,” he said.
Aidil added that the squad’s mentality has been crucial in driving their push up the table, with players showing a strong desire to achieve something meaningful for the club and its supporters.
“We know what we want. We want to create history for Kuching City and give something back to the fans who have supported us all this while. Hopefully in the last game, we can deliver something special for them,” he said.
Despite acknowledging the challenges faced by a relatively small club competing at the highest level, Aidil praised the hunger within the squad and the collective effort from both players and management.
“It’s not easy for a team like us, a small club, not in this situation. Some players, yes. Most of the players are not, and even the management are not (familiar), but it is a good sign that everyone is hungry to achieve what we want,” he explained.
He also reflected positively on the team’s overall achievements this season, pointing to their deep runs in cup competitions and strong league performance as evidence of steady progress.
“Whatever the result is, I am still happy and pleased with all the players for what we have achieved. We have reached the FA Cup semi-final, Malaysia Cup final, and now we are fighting for second place. So this is all effort from the players and also the president, who has been supporting us a lot,” he said.
Aidil stressed that while results remain important, the focus is also on rewarding the supporters who have stood by the team throughout the season, especially as they prepare to play their final league match against KL City tomorrow (Sunday, May 17) at home.
“We are playing at home for the last game of the league. I cannot promise (anything), but with the support of the fans, I believe it will be an exciting match,” he added.
Kuching City sit second with 50 points, and aim to cap off a successful season with home crowd support for a meaningful win.
