KUCHING: A total of 173 teachers under SeDidik now hold at least diploma-level qualifications in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).

Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said SeDidik had achieved its target of upgrading the academic qualifications of all educators.

“As of March 31, 2026, all 173 SeDidik teachers possess minimum Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree qualifications in Early Childhood Care and Education,” she said during the SeDidik Teachers’ Day celebration here last night (May 16).

She said the breakdown comprised 13 educators with bachelor’s degrees, 132 with diplomas in early childhood education and 28 with Malaysian Skills Diplomas in ECCE.

She said SeDidik continued strengthening teacher professionalism training, improving facilities at TASKA and TADIKA centres, and ensuring its curriculum remained relevant to global needs while retaining local cultural values.

She added that SeDidik remained committed towards inclusive education through its “Open Door Policy”, which ensures children with special needs learn together with other children in the same classroom environment.

“We want our teachers to be equipped with the skills needed to support children with special needs,” she said.

Fatimah said SeDidik had signed a Memorandum of Agreement with TOY8, a Malaysian early childhood technology company, on April 21 this year for digital screening and intervention programmes involving children with developmental needs.

“To ensure programme sustainability and continuity, SeDidik now has 17 certified master trainers from among its own educators,” she said.

She said the master trainers would be responsible for training the remaining 140 teachers by 2027 to conduct developmental screening consistently across Sarawak.

Fatimah added that the certified trainers would support developmental screening involving 1,800 SeDidik children statewide to ensure high-quality early intervention services.

Meanwhile, she said SeDidik had also strengthened sign language learning initiatives within its centres.

“170 out of 173 teachers, or 98.26 per cent, have undergone sign language training,” she said.
