DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (UAE): The Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority said today that it has launched a logistics corridor connecting Sharjah, one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with ports in Oman through land border crossings, reported Xinhua.
The authority said the corridor links the Emirate with Oman’s Sohar Port, Duqm Port and Salalah Port, with Sohar serving as the primary gateway due to its proximity to the UAE.
Live operations began on May 14 following completion of required technical and coordination steps, the authority said.
The first shipments moved from Sharjah’s Port Khalid to Sohar Port via the Khatmat Malaha border crossing in Sharjah’s Kalba.
According to the authority, customs clearance is now handled directly at Sharjah’s border crossings, with no extra transfers, helping cut processing time and lowering land transport costs.
The authority said the project would provide manufacturers and trading companies with more flexible access to regional and global markets, reflecting growing economic integration between the UAE and Oman. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
