KUCHING: An energetic performance by renowned Indonesian singer Cakra Khan brought the curtain down on the Kuching Music Festival (KMF) 2026 in spectacular fashion at Padang Merdeka last night (May 17).
More than 50,000 spectators from across Sarawak as well as Indonesia packed Padang Merdeka to witness the singer’s special live performance at the festival organised by the North Kuching City Commission (DBKU).
Also present to enliven the festival’s closing night was Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The atmosphere at the field turned electrifying when Cakra Khan appeared at around 11 pm to thunderous cheers and applause from fans who had eagerly awaited his appearance.
Popular songs such as Kekasih Bayangan, Kepada Hati, Harus Terpisah and Hal Baik captivated thousands in the audience, many of whom sang along to every verse.
The emotional and heartfelt performance clearly gave fans a memorable experience, making the festival’s closing night one of the most unforgettable.
The spotlight was not solely on Cakra Khan, as the KMF 2026 stage was also enlivened by impressive and energetic performances from Sarawak local artistes throughout the evening.
The concert began as early as 8.30 pm with an opening performance by Mal Imran, followed by Carrie Geres and Chieng Ng, who successfully heated up the stage atmosphere.
Before the curtain fully fell on the Kuching Music Festival 2026, Sarawak’s iconic song Berkikis Bulu Betis was performed by a lineup of artistes including Ramles Walter and Firdaus Materang together with other performers who appeared that night.
Cheers and singing echoed throughout Padang Merdeka as everyone present joined in singing the beloved Sarawak anthem, which was seen as capable of uniting the multi-racial community through music.
For the record, the Kuching Music Festival 2026 was held over two days from May 16 to 17 at Padang Merdeka with free admission from 8.30 pm until midnight, featuring a lineup of local and international artistes.
