MIRI: A woman and her child went through a terrifying ordeal after two armed men allegedly hijacked their car in broad daylight on Sunday (May 17).

The incident occurred at around 9.15 am while the victims were waiting inside the Toyota Fortuner near the Times Square roundabout along Jalan Cina here.

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the two unidentified suspects suddenly entered the vehicle before one of them pressed a knife against the child’s neck while the other threatened the woman with a knife.

“The suspects then drove off with both victims still inside the vehicle before later abandoning them at Miri Park.

Background checks found that the man has several prior records involving robbery, vehicle theft and drug-related offences.

Farhan added that police also recovered the victim’s Toyota Fortuner at the parking area of a supermarket.

The caught suspect has been remanded for six days until May 24 to assist investigations, while efforts are ongoing to track down his accomplice who remains at large.
