SERIAN: A K9 unit has been deployed to assist in the search for an elderly man who disappeared after attending a funeral at a neighbouring village.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation at Kampung Koran Empaneg saw K9 dog Daisy brought in to help track down 68-year-old Baluk Dayo, who has been missing since Saturday.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim was last seen around 2 pm after attending a relative’s funeral at Kampung Koran Bari.

Concern grew after the elderly man failed to return home, prompting his family to launch an initial search in the surrounding area before lodging a report with the authorities.

However, despite early search efforts, no trace of the victim was found.

It was reported that Baluk has high blood pressure, heart problems and gastritis.

Besides firefighters and the K9 unit, the search also involves the police, Civil Defence Force (APM), RELA members and about 50 villagers.

At the time of writing, the victim had yet to be found.
