KABONG: A suspected drug dealer with a lengthy criminal history was caught after officers allegedly uncovered several packets of syabu inside his sling bag yesterday (May 19).

The 38-year-old local man was arrested by the district police task force during a targeted ‘Ops Tapis’ around the district.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the team, headed by Insp Henry Muji, acted on intelligence before approaching and detaining the suspect for inspections.

“Further checks on the suspect’s sling bag led to the discovery of eight plastic packets containing crystalline substances believed to be syabu.

“Both the suspect and the drugs, weighing about 1.53g, were taken to the police station for further action,” he said.

A urine screening test conducted on him returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Background checks found that the suspect had six prior records involving drug offences, theft and criminal intimidation.

Mathew said the case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
