BINTULU: The second day of the ‘Sarawakku Sayang’ 2026 Bintulu programme today (Saturday, May 23) turned lively as hundreds of members of the public joined a brisk walk activity from Tanjung Batu to the Bintulu Observatory Centre.
As early as 7 am, the arrival of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Tanjung Batu was greeted by crowds eager to take part in the community programme.
According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), accompanying the Premier were Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai, Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and other distinguished guests.
Beyond promoting a healthy lifestyle, the casual programme also served as a platform for the state leadership to engage with the people in a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
After completing the brisk walk, Abang Johari proceeded to the Farley Food Court for a breakfast session alongside invited guests.
In the laid-back setting, he also took time to mingle with members of the public, greeting visitors and traders at the venue.
Many took the opportunity to interact with the Premier and capture photos with him, adding to the cheerful atmosphere throughout the programme.
At the same time, Abang Johari also witnessed a ‘Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak’ (SKAS) transaction involving three recipients at the Farley counter, symbolising the state government’s continued commitment to ensuring welfare initiatives benefit the people.
He is later scheduled to officiate the ‘Sarawakku Sayang’ Bintulu Division Programme 2026 at the Old Bintulu Airport site, continuing the programme’s efforts to strengthen ties between the state leadership and the people through various activities and development initiatives.
