KUCHING: A total of 100 B40 families from five villages in the Tabuan area received festive food baskets today (May 23) in conjunction with the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebration.
The distribution, held at the third floor of Teck Kong Supermarket in Tabuan Jaya, was organised by the Tabuan Jaya Chamber of Commerce (TJCC) alongside its youth wing and sponsored by Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How.
The five beneficiary villages involved were Kampung Tabuan Jaya Tengah, Kampung Tabuan Paya, Kampung Tabuan Dayak, Kampung Sungai Nada and Kampung Sungai Laru.
Speaking at the event, See highlighted that the recipient families were carefully selected with the assistance of local community leaders to ensure the aid reached those most in need.
“The penghulu actually helped to select the families, as we are mainly focusing on providing these baskets to B40 families.
“Today, we are very happy because the Tabuan Jaya Chamber of Commerce, along with their youth wing, are assisting us,” he said.
He emphasised that Gawai Dayak is a celebration shared by all communities in Sarawak, serving as a pillar of unity for the state.
“Gawai in Sarawak is celebrated by every race, just like Hari Raya and Chinese New Year. I hope everybody will enjoy the holidays, and the visiting will, of course, bring Sarawakians even closer together,” he added.
See also noted that this spirit of unity is crucial for Sarawak’s future growth and development.
“As we try to unite everybody to ensure Sarawak progresses even faster and better, I believe that by working together, we can truly achieve a lot of things in the years ahead,” he said.
The charity initiative was also carried out in collaboration with Penghulu Pui Chow Hin and the owner of Teck Kong Supermarket.
