KUALA LUMPUR: Kuching City FC head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak says the club should decide his future following a historic campaign that ended with a Malaysia Cup final appearance.
The Singaporean tactician stressed that professionalism remains his priority as discussions continue with the club’s management.
Aidil said clarity over his position would allow both parties to move forward properly after a demanding season.
“I think it’s best that the club announce it, whether I’m in or I’m out,” he told a post-match press conference at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Saturday night (May 23).
The coach also acknowledged his strong emotional connection with Kuching despite the uncertainty surrounding his future.
“I just have to be professional. Of course, I love Kuching,” he said.
Aidil added that results ultimately define a coach’s position regardless of reputation or achievements.
“Football is all about results. Nobody cares about development. At the end of the day, when there’s no result, the pointing fingers is always at the head coach,” he said.
He pointed out that even elite managers face the same scrutiny.
“Even Xabi Alonso is a good coach, but if he doesn’t do well at Real Madrid, people will still question him. We will definitely sit down with the board to see what the weaknesses are and what quality we need,” he explained.
Aidil stressed that next season will require greater squad depth with Kuching City set to compete on multiple fronts.
“We need to play ACL, Shopee Cup, FA Cup, Malaysia Cup. We have many competitions coming and let’s not forget we’re going to meet JDT again in the first game, so we need to find ways to improve ourselves,” he added.
Despite ending the season without silverware, Aidil reflected positively on the club’s achievements.
“We created so much history by reaching the final, finishing second, and competing well with big teams,” he said.
He also thanked the players, management and supporters for their commitment throughout the campaign.
“It was a good season, just not a good ending today,” he said.
