KUCHING: Aidil Sharin Sahak has hinted at possible reinforcements for next season but says recruitment discussions can wait until after his holiday break.
The Kuching City FC head coach reflected on a successful campaign which saw the Cats finish second in the Super League, qualify for the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2), and end the season as Malaysia Cup runners-up.
Aidil said improvements are still needed in both defence and attack as Kuching City prepare for a more demanding season ahead, especially with international competition looming.
“There’s two things I can see. Firstly, we had the second-best defensive record compared to JDT and of course I demand better defenders to improve because we are going to play international teams more often.
“Secondly, attacking-wise, we also need to improve. We have to catch up with what Selangor and the other teams above us are doing in terms of scoring more goals. This is our job, to improve as a team every year,” he said.
However, when asked about possible new signings, Aidil responded in a light-hearted manner, saying transfer discussions would only continue after his break.
“Let me rest first… I go to Maldives first, enjoy my honeymoon a little bit, then we can talk about new players,” he told a recent press conference.
The remark drew laughter but also hinted that recruitment planning is already underway behind the scenes.
Kuching City are expected to assess both local and foreign options as they look to strengthen key areas after a season where consistency in front of goal remained an issue.
Further decisions on transfers and squad restructuring are expected once Aidil returns from the off-season break.
