KUCHING: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has assured that livestock supply for Aidiladha this year is sufficient nationwide, with available stocks exceeding projected demand for sacrificial rites.

In a statement today (May 25), the ministry said statistics from the Department of Veterinary Services as of April 2026 showed that a total of 51,972 cattle and buffalo are available for korban purposes, surpassing the estimated requirement of 40,420 heads for mosques, surau and slaughterhouses across the country.

“Local cattle and buffalo stock stood at 35,127 heads, while imported supply accounted for 16,845 heads.

“For goats and sheep, total available supply reached 30,047 heads, exceeding the projected demand of 22,424 heads.

“Of the total, 25,815 heads were sourced locally while 4,232 were imported,” it said.

The ministry added that the figures reflect that the country’s overall livestock supply remains more than adequate to support sacrificial slaughter activities during Aidiladha 2026 (1447H).

On infrastructure readiness, 27 slaughterhouses operated by the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) across Peninsular Malaysia are prepared to handle sacrificial slaughtering activities.

In addition, 43 private slaughterhouses nationwide have been licensed to provide legal slaughtering services to the public until March 16, 2026.

The ministry also reminded organisers intending to carry out sacrificial slaughter outside designated slaughterhouse compounds, including at mosques, surau, schools, residential areas and public spaces, to apply for an external slaughter permit together with the required supporting documents.

The public has also been encouraged to refer to the Guidelines for Slaughtering Sacrificial Livestock issued by DVS to ensure all sacrificial activities are conducted smoothly and in compliance with established standards.
