KUCHING: An elderly man was found unconscious inside a locked house in Miri early today after firefighters were called in to help gain access to the property.
A team from the Miri Sentral Fire and Rescue Station responded to an emergency call at 12.16 am from a woman who reported that the front gate of a house along Jalan Chong Poh was locked, preventing access to a male occupant inside.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department, a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the front gate secured with a chain and padlock. They used bolt cutters to remove the chain and gain entry to the compound.
The team then forced open a room inside the house and discovered a man lying unconscious on the floor.
An initial assessment by EMRS personnel found that the victim had no detectable pulse and was not breathing.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was immediately administered while awaiting the arrival of paramedics.
The operation was brought under control at about 12.30am, with firefighters remaining at the scene to provide assistance before returning to the station.
No further details on the victim’s identity were immediately available.
A total of six Fire and Rescue Department personnel were involved in the operation, which utilised a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an EMRS vehicle.
