BAU: A lorry driver lost RM230 after allegedly being extorted by an unknown individual who threatened to circulate his personal photographs on social media.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the 42-year-old had received a WhatsApp message from an unfamiliar number at around 11.30pm last Sunday (May 31).

The sender allegedly forwarded several images believed to have been taken from the victim’s TikTok profile, including photographs showing his face, body and private parts.

“The suspect then demanded RM300 and threatened to distribute the images online if payment was not made.

“Fearing the photographs would be made public, the victim transferred RM230 in two separate transactions to a Touch ‘n Go account registered under the name Nur Lyana Mail,” he said.

Police have since obtained screenshots of the conversations and payment transactions as part of their investigation.

Mohd Haide said the case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion.

Efforts are underway to trace the owner of the e-wallet account and obtain further information from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
