KUALA LUMPUR: The Sarawak State Library booth at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (KLIBF) 2026 received a royal visit from Her Royal Highness the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who graciously toured the exhibition and activities at the booth on Sunday.
The visit underscored the continued support of the royal institution for efforts to foster a reading culture, promote state heritage, and showcase valuable knowledge resources to the wider community.
According to Sarawak State Library in a press statement on Tuesday, the institution expressed its highest appreciation and gratitude for Her Royal Highness’s gracious presence at the booth during KLIBF 2026.
“Sarawak State Library records its highest appreciation and extends its utmost gratitude for Her Royal Highness’s gracious visit to the Sarawak State Library booth. The visit is a significant honour and recognition of our efforts to uphold cultural heritage while introducing Sarawak’s wealth of knowledge and literary treasures to the public,” it said.
During the visit, Her Royal Highness also witnessed a Sape and Orang Ulu cultural dance performance presented by Anderson Kalang and the Mupun Tauh Orang Ulu Ladies group.
The performance highlighted the uniqueness of Sarawak’s traditional arts through a captivating blend of Sape music and traditional Orang Ulu dance, drawing the attention of visitors at the fair.
Anderson, who hails from the Kelabit community, is widely recognised as a Sape musician, cultural dancer and arts advocate actively promoting Bornean heritage on both national and international platforms.
He is also known by the nickname “Sape’ Shredder” and is a co-founder of the Kuala Lumpur Sape’ Collective as well as the Mupun Tauh group, both dedicated to preserving and promoting Sarawak’s traditional arts.
Sarawak State Library described the performance as an effective platform for introducing the state’s rich cultural diversity to a broader audience, particularly visitors attending the nation’s largest book fair.
KLIBF 2026 is being held from May 29 to June 7 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), with the Sarawak State Library booth continuing to serve as a platform to promote the state’s publications, culture, and heritage to visitors from across Malaysia.
