PADAWAN: A series of physical development projects totalling RM140,000 for Kampung Annah Rais has been allocated in response to the grievances and requests raised by the villagers.
Among the key projects announced were the construction of two waste disposal sites or bin centres in Kampung Annah Rais, with a ceiling price of RM20,000 each, bringing the total to RM40,000. The project is expected to be carried out in the near future.
Speaking to reporters after the Annah Rais Harvest Festival 2026 opening ceremony, Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin elaborated on the waste management initiative that has been a cornerstone of his work as a representative.
He recalled that when he first took office, rubbish was being dumped everywhere across the villages, with waste discarded indiscriminately and thrown into rivers.
“Poor waste disposal risks polluting our rivers, harming aquatic ecology and spread disease through animals.
“This is why we made it a priority to ensure every village has at least one or two proper covered waste collection points with a centralised waste house,” he said.
Willie said he has always given serious attention to the issue of waste management since first taking office, and the construction of safe and clean bin centres in every village was among the first things he prioritised.
He expressed gratitude to municipal councils and Trienekens Sarawak Sdn Bhd for their support in ensuring proper waste management across the constituency.
“You can see throughout the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency, all our bin centres are placed in proper locations, and waste is no longer scattered about,” he said, noting a significant improvements have been made compared to eight or ten years ago.
He added that as a village that receives many tourists, Kampung Annah Rais needs to look clean, pleasant and have a well-organised waste disposal system.
In addition, Willie also approved an allocation of RM100,000 for a gravity-fed water project to address the water supply needs of Kampung Annah Rais.
He acknowledged that the village does not face an overly pressing water problem, however with the growing number of tourists visit, the need for adequate water supply has become increasingly important.
He also informed that plans are underway to upgrade the road connecting Kampung Annah Rais to Kampung Semuti, which will further connect to the Serian area, to improve access and connectivity for the villagers.
On the street lighting project, Willie informed that the third phase of street light installation is currently being planned, covering the stretch from Kampung Gerung to Kampung Annah Rais.
The first phase had seen streetlights installed from Kota Padawan to the Puncak Borneo prison junction, while the second phase covered the area from the junction to Kampung Gerung.
